Local manufacturers: three buyers, one site

For regional fabricators who make windows or doors and sell direct to homeowners, through dealers, or to builders. Three audiences arrive, and none of them should have to guess where to click.

Who is on the other end of the search

The buyer a site for local window and door manufacturers has to win, and what they want answered before they pick up the phone.

A manufacturer’s site has three audiences. Homeowners want to know where to buy and whether you install. Dealers want product information they can send to their own customers. Builders and renovators want sizes, lead times and a contact for quotes.

Homeowners also look for the maker because a local manufacturer sounds reassuring: a plant nearby, a place to call if something goes wrong. The site should make it plain who they contact for sales, for service and for warranty.

If your site was built when the dealer network was smaller, the fix is rarely more pages. It is the right three doors on the home page.

The jobs your site has to sell

Direct to homeowner
Sales and installation by the manufacturer’s own team.
Through dealers
Product sold and installed by authorized dealers.
Builder supply
New construction and renovation orders by project.
Service and parts
Hardware, sealed units and adjustments over the product’s life.

What we usually have to fix

Four faults we meet on most sites for local window and door manufacturers. Each one quietly sends a homeowner to the next installer in the search results.

Fault and correction
On the site nowOn the new build
One home page tries to speak to homeowners, dealers and builders at once, and speaks clearly to none. Three paths from the first screen: buy for my home, sell our products, supply my project.
Specifications live only in PDFs that don’t open well on a phone and can’t be found by search. A specification page per series, with the PDF linked underneath for those who need it.
The dealer list is two years old. Where to buy, by province and town, updated as a routine monthly edit.
Warranty is a paragraph of legal text with no way to request service. A warranty page in plain words, with registration and a service request form.

What the website must show, and why

Requirements, local window and door manufacturers
ItemWhy it matters
Product series with specification pages Dealers and builders need a page they can link to that lists operator types, frame and glazing options.
Performance values per model Where a model is certified or rated, show the values from its label, model by model.
Where to buy A dealer list by region, so homeowners reach the right seller.
Builder and dealer contact A separate path for trade inquiries keeps them out of the homeowner queue.
Warranty and service Registration, what is covered in your own words, and how to request service.

The pages your site will carry

A starting build sheet. The final structure follows your content checklist and what you actually sell, not a template.

  1. P-01 Home Three paths: homeowners, dealers, builders.
  2. P-02 Product series One page per series, then model specification pages.
  3. P-03 Specifications Operator types, frame, glazing packages, label values you supply.
  4. P-04 Where to buy Dealers by province and town.
  5. P-05 Become a dealer What you look for in a dealer, and a contact form.
  6. P-06 Warranty and service Registration, coverage summary, service request.

Not every page has to exist on day one. We put the pages a homeowner checks before booking a measure ahead of the rest, so the site is ready for the spring and summer run. See the install-season board.

A quote form that asks what you need to know

A generic form asks for a message and gets one sentence back. This one asks the questions you would ask on the phone, as taps on a phone screen, so your first callback starts with the job instead of “tell me more”.

What this site can do without

Every extra page is another thing to keep current through install season. These win no work for local window and door manufacturers, so we leave them out.

  • A product database synced with your plant systems. That is a larger project than this plan covers, and we say so on the call.
  • Marketing claims your test reports don’t support. The label values carry more weight.
  • A separate dealer extranet. A clear dealer page and contact path cover what most regional networks need.

Things to get right on this kind of site

  • To use the ENERGY STAR name and symbol in Canada, the manufacturer signs a participant arrangement with NRCan. The website follows those brand rules; we don’t add the mark ourselves.
  • Efficiency and durability claims beyond the label need testing behind them under the Competition Act. Keep marketing lines to what your test reports support.
  • Dealer lists go stale. Updating the list is a natural monthly edit.

NRCan requires a signed Participant Administrative Arrangement to use the ENERGY STAR name and symbol in Canada 2 . and only models that meet the specification and are registered with NRCan can be promoted as certified 1 . Each certified model’s temporary label carries its performance values and product description, which makes it the right source for a spec page 2 . The Competition Bureau says performance claims, including words and design on a website, must rest on an adequate and proper test done before the claim is made 3 .

Questions from local window and door manufacturers

Can the site hold downloadable spec sheets?

Yes, as PDFs you supply, linked from each series page. The key details also go on the page itself so they can be read on a phone and found by search engines.

Can we have a dealer map?

The site lists dealers by region with their contact details as you supply them. A simple list by province and town works well on phones.

Is the plan suitable for a large product catalogue?

It suits regional manufacturers with a manageable range. If you need hundreds of model pages kept in sync with a database, that is a bigger project than this plan covers, and we will say so on the call.

Can dealers link to our specification pages?

Yes. Each series page has a stable address, so dealers can link to it from their own sites and quotes.

We sell in more than one province. Does the site change by region?

The where-to-buy page is organized by province and town. Product pages stay the same everywhere unless a series is only sold in some regions, in which case the page says so.
