Window and door dealers: your lines, your buyers

For dealers and retailers who sell, and often install, product lines from one or more manufacturers. Two kinds of buyer arrive, and each needs its own path through the site.

Who is on the other end of the search

The buyer a site for window and door dealers has to win, and what they want answered before they pick up the phone.

Dealer customers are comparing products as much as companies. They arrive having seen a brand name on a lawn sign down the street or in a store, and they want to know which lines you carry, how those lines differ and who installs them.

The second reader is a contractor or renovator buying for a client, who wants a straight answer on lead times, sizes and whether you supply only or supply and install. They don’t want the homeowner tour.

A dealer site that serves both, without making either wade through the other’s pages, is rarer than it should be. It is also what gets a contractor to open an account.

The jobs your site has to sell

Supply and install
Homeowner orders through the dealer, dealer crew or partner installs.
Supply only
Contractors and renovators order product for their own jobs.
Showroom sales
Displays of the lines carried, samples of frames and hardware.
Service and warranty
Adjustments and warranty claims handled through the dealer.

What we usually have to fix

Four faults we meet on most sites for window and door dealers. Each one quietly sends a homeowner to the next installer in the search results.

Fault and correction
On the site nowOn the new build
The site repeats the manufacturer’s marketing and links away to the maker’s own site. Short model pages in your words, with the label values you supply, so buyers stay with the dealer who sells it.
Homeowners and contractors share one contact form, and trade inquiries wait behind general questions. A contractor path with supply-only ordering and its own inquiry form.
Brands carried appear as a row of logos with no pages behind them. A page per line you carry, so brand searches land on your site.
Service and warranty requests arrive by phone because the site never mentions them. A service page that says how to request help and what to have ready.

What the website must show, and why

Requirements, window and door dealers
ItemWhy it matters
The lines you carry, by manufacturer Buyers search by brand. A page per line, with the manufacturer’s own model names, catches that search.
Model details from the label Frame type, glazing and performance values come straight from each model’s label or documentation.
Supply only or supply and install Contractors need to know before they call. State both paths clearly.
Showroom, hours and parking Dealers sell in person. Make the visit easy.
Warranty and service contact Existing customers look for it; answering on the site keeps the phone free.

The pages your site will carry

A starting build sheet. The final structure follows your content checklist and what you actually sell, not a template.

  1. P-01 Home The lines carried, showroom visit, supply and install paths.
  2. P-02 Product lines One page per manufacturer line, then model pages.
  3. P-03 Model pages Operator type, frame, glazing options, label values you supply.
  4. P-04 For contractors Supply-only ordering, lead times you publish, account contact.
  5. P-05 Showroom Address, hours, what is on display.
  6. P-06 Service and warranty How to request service, what to have ready.

Not every page has to exist on day one. We put the pages a homeowner checks before booking a measure ahead of the rest, so the site is ready for the spring and summer run. See the install-season board.

A quote form that asks what you need to know

A generic form asks for a message and gets one sentence back. This one asks the questions you would ask on the phone, as taps on a phone screen, so your first callback starts with the job instead of “tell me more”.

Form fields
QuestionAnswers
Are you a homeowner or a contractor? Homeowner, contractor or renovator
Which product line? The lines you carry, or not sure
Supply only or installed? Supply only, supply and install
Quantity and timeline Number of units, target date

Name, email and phone come last, with a note saying what they are used for.

What this site can do without

Every extra page is another thing to keep current through install season. These win no work for window and door dealers, so we leave them out.

  • A copy of the manufacturer’s whole brochure. It duplicates the maker’s site and buries the details buyers actually compare.
  • A shopping cart. Orders are confirmed by you after sizes are checked.
  • Logos you aren’t allowed to use. Your dealer agreement decides, and the site follows it.

Things to get right on this kind of site

  • Your dealer agreement may set rules for brand names, logos and claims. The site follows what the manufacturer allows.
  • Don’t copy a whole manufacturer brochure. Short model pages in your own words, with the label values, are easier to read and not a duplicate of the maker’s site.
  • Only models registered and certified in Canada can be promoted as ENERGY STAR certified here. Confirm per model before it goes on a page.

NRCan’s specification says a model has to meet the requirements and be registered with NRCan before it can be promoted as ENERGY STAR certified in Canada 2 . The label on a certified model lists its U-factor, SHGC, Energy Rating and VT, with frame type, glazing and a model code 3 . and NRCan explains to buyers that the lower the U-factor, the more efficient the product 1 .

Questions from window and door dealers

Can I have a page for every model I sell?

Model pages are built from the details you supply. For large catalogues we group models under each line and add model pages for the ones you sell most.

Can contractors order through the site?

The site carries a contractor inquiry form. It isn’t a shop with checkout; orders are confirmed by you.

Can I use the manufacturer’s photos?

Where your dealer agreement allows it. Photos from your own installs and showroom are always yours to use.

We added a new line this year. How fast can it go on the site?

A new line page is a content edit once you send the model details and photos. Larger additions can be spread across the monthly edits.

Should lead times be published?

Only the ones you are prepared to keep up to date. A range you revise each season is worth more than a number nobody has checked since launch.
